I found this while googling for something totally unrelated, and thought I would share it here. This is an excellent example of the usefulness of a live CD.

This is a very specialized live CD developed by the Australian Swinburne University for conducting on-line assessments of students.

It is basically a very locked-down kiosk that prevents the user from accessing other websites, other applications, peripheral devices, basically any other source of information while they are taking the assessment.

While this live CD is only useful for this one task, the website describes the entire process used to develop it, with detailed instructions to make your own customised live CD. Anyone who wants to develop a kiosk type live CD should give this site a look.
