Best Linux LiveCD to show off the coolness that is Linux

Postby nick » Wed Apr 13, 2005 11:40 pm

You know you've shown at least one Windows user Linux using a LiveCD... So which one did you use?

As always, post below if you want another LiveCD added to the list.

I'm going to have to go with Kubuntu for this point in time. KDE 3.4 has some serious eye-candy. Add working debian repositories on the LiveCD, and I'm able to download and get drivers for hardware video acceleration, then enable and showoff all the composite effects built into KDE 3.4.

I'll see if I can get some screenshots :)

Please, could you add the GoblinX for this poll ? It's so pretty with its special themes, and with FIVE Xmanagers, you really can show how cool is linux.
I think it's with GoblinX that i made most of my friends use Linux. :)
Thanks!

Dyne:Bolic

Postby flyneye » Thu May 12, 2005 7:57 am

I would've said the DeMuDi live cd,but seeing that its not real current nor on the list I will say Dyne:Bolic because of its autoclustering and fantastic job of being a multimedia/broadcast studio on a disc.Waaaaay cool Jaromil, thanks for setting us free.

I'm going to have to agree with nick and say Kubuntu on this one. Normally I'd go with just straight up ubuntu, but Kubuntu has some serious eyecandy!

flyneye has a good point too. Dyne:Bolic is pretty nice.

Taking my sd-card out of my cell-phone, plugging it into a little usb device and booting a random pc from it into SLAX.
Nothing beats the coolness of that! 8)

Hi,
i made my vote, and i want to invite everyone to see the screenshots and the video (the best way to show an elive preview) of ELIVE, (livecd.debianitas.net/screenshots.html) , a debian based live cd using enligthenment as default desktop.

A vote for Kanotix & DSL

Postby cdr » Fri Nov 04, 2005 7:41 am

I think for OVerall Coolness I would vote for Kanotix or Damn Small Linux.
I would like my vote added to both since I would reach for either one to show to a friend.

I voted Knoppix just because it's so full of goodies and it's been around for a while, but DSL and Slax are right up there with it. Haven't tried the Kubuntu live-cd yet so suppose I need to do that, and perhaps the Kanotix live-cd, too.

Of course, the large stack of various rescue CDs I keep on hand usually has Knoppix right up on the top, too.

Converted a few to Puppy. Even got my 70 year old Father on A PupTop. It travels with him and he emails me from all over. Tell me that ain't Linux Coolness :)

I'd vote for NimbleX but it's not in the poll. It's 200MB of pure cool Linux stuff. It really shows how versatile Linux is!

Please add NimbleX to the Poll.

Mandriva One, KDE edition of course. Live CD with KDE and both Compiz and Matisse, OpenOffice, etc. Oh, and the proprietary nVidia driver so you can actually use Compiz. Presumably PCLinuxOS would also work here

If you allow DVDs, then I might go for Sabayon.
