modify Windows XP ACLs

Postby Rick » Wed Oct 20, 2004 9:46 pm

Hi, I messed up my ACLs because I can't seem to leave anything alone and I was wondering if any of these CDs include utilities that would let me change permissions for files and directories under Windows XP Home.
Specifically I think I set the permissions for everything so that only one user has full access and the system doesn't have any access and I think that is why my computer will not boot.
I know, I'm an idiot.

Hi

This forum is about Linux LiveCD and perhaps you should ask on Windows LiveCD.

The best option is re-installing XP, or running XP using safe mode (if possible). Use this program:
http://setacl.sourceforge.net

On Knoppix, SantaFe, and several other livecd, there is a Wine / Crossover Windows Emulator, but at present most Linux distro cannot WRITE into Windows XP NTFS partition. I do not know if Wine/XO is compatible with SetACL.
In Linux, there is an ACL look-alike:
