intel pro 2200 wireless

hi all,
does anyone know of a live linux distribution that supports this nic? if ther e are workarounds to make any of the available distros capable of using this nic i am willing to give it a shot.

Drivers and firmware for both the 2100 and 2200 are listed in the Kanotix package list (ipw2100, ipw2200). I have not tried Kanotix, so I don't know how well they work.

*edit* just tried Kanotix, it detected and loaded the 2200 drivers automatically on a Thinkpad T42

Knoppix 3.7 has ndiswrappers, which should allow you to use the drivers on your windows partition. It also has the 2100 drivers (ipw2100), but does not appear to have 2200.

i tried to get kontix to work but it kept on giving me errors under vmware while other live linux distros are working fine.

have any idea about what the prob may be?

IMO perhaps you can install Knoppix to hard disk and install the driver:

If you have the time and skill, perhaps you can create new kernel with built in Intel Pro 2200 driver and create a modified / customized Knoppix.

klik is another thing to try, it lets you install software onto Knoppix when running as a live CD:

I'm not sure what could cause the errors with vmware, I don't have much experience with it.

Perhaps you can use expert mode ("knoppix expert" cheat code at boot time) for loading Intel Pro 2200 module for Knoppix kernel.

1. Download Intel Pro 2200 driver.
2. Compile the driver and create the Intel Pro 2200 module for the knoppix kernel.
3. Copy the module from the following directory /sub-directory:

/lib/modules/<version of kernel>

(search for ".o" or ".ko" file)

to a hard disk partition (vfat or ext2) or a floppy disk.

4. When you boot knoppix, use "expert" cheat code and load the module.

The "expert" mode provides a very simple interface to loading additional Kernel modules from floppy disks (ext2 or vfat), plus interactive configuration of mouse/keyboard/soundcard/xserver. "expert" mode supports the same boot options as "knoppix".
