help finding distro

Postby jrybon » Wed Jan 05, 2005 3:41 pm

Greetings and Happy New Year! Great website you have here.

I recieved a Dell 5160 laptop as a holiday gift and require assistance finding a distro that supports the included components. I have tried several live disks (knoppix, linspire, mandrake) but wireless networking and video components (XGI Volari XP5) continue to be problematic. Can you make any recommendations?

Looking around your site gives me the impression that no single disrto is compatible with everything, and my best bet will be to pick a good starting place...

Best Regards, John

Hi
Perhaps you can use Knoppix 3.7 + Ndiswrapper + Windows Wireless Driver (Broadcom).

Perhaps you can try to use VESA with various video modes. See Knoppix cheat codes.

XGI had released a unified driver, but I do not know if this driver is compatible with Volari XP5.

Perhaps you should ask local DELL Tech support or search their ftp / website:
