Adding a bookmark file and hard drive Hex Viewer

I like the live Linux versions but I want to take my own bookmark file and add it to my CD. How can I do it?
I see comments stating that people have fixed scrambled hard drive data using a rescue CD. How do they do it? I have looked for a Hex hard drive data viewing utility on some of the live distros but I can't find one.
