mutagenix updates

Postby dxnxax » Tue Apr 19, 2005 7:05 pm

Just a correction for the mutagenix function list:
Rescue, Firewall, Desktop, OS Replacement and (a new one) Load Generator.

Since these are all separate CDs (except for the Firewall, which is auto configured in stealth mode on each CD), if I had to prioritize the functionality, they would be:
Rescue, Desktop, OS Replacement, Firewall and Load Generator

Load Generator is a cd used to generate and absorb traffic (smtp and http) across a network for testing purposes. This CD will be included in the next version of mutagenix (2.6.10-1) which will be released in the next couple weeks.

thanks,

Dan

I changed the functions, but i did not add firewall, because i didnt see a router/firewall LiveCD on the site (maybe i missed it?), and added diagnostics for the load generation features. What are the load generation features? This is the first LiveCD I have heard of which contains this ability, but I'm not ready to add a load generation function in case most of the other diagnostic LiveCDs ship with the same software.

Nick,

Thanks. Each CD includes an auto configuring firewall script. The rescue CD, with that script and iptables could be considered also the firewall CD.

The load generator portion includes scripts (which I use in my Lab at work) for generating copious amounts of smtp and http traffic. The cd also contains programs which can act as smtp and http sinks on the other side of the network. Diagnostics works, but is slightly misleading :)

thanks,

Dan
