The MEPIS live CDs are used primarily to demo MEPIS before installation, and then for the installation itself. "The latest MEPIS bootable CD is believed to be compatible with more hardware and there are improvements to the MEPIS OS Center that should eliminate some installation problems." link

Hi
What is the difference between Simply MEPIS LiveCD and Pro MEPIS?
The original MEPIS distro CD is not a LiveCD.

I'm not sure what the differences are, but the new PreMepis 2005 beta discs are live CDs. I've been playing with beta 03, which I downloaded from here:
