Live CDs that demo hw compatibility and also Install

Postby jaynicks » Tue Feb 01, 2005 2:02 pm

What distros are single CDs that demo live and also support hd installs, other than Kanotix?

Witn Kanotix I have been able to get a few Winnies to watch the demo then agree to a dual boot install after which they ignore Redmond's scatological s/w for all web work.

Previously after the, "Yeah, the demo is great." I'd have to haul out another batch of CDs for the install and far more often than not got told, "Maybe I'll be in touch." It is a comfort and credibiilty thing, going for the close, and using Kanotix for both demo and install works.

Are there others?

J

p.s. if you do this be sure to first defrag the WIn drive you are going to QTPartd-steal some parts of for the install.

Knoppix and MEPIS both have installers. MEPIS was the easier of the two when I tried installing them.

Zen Linux has HD install and a nice remaster script.
PCLinuxOS will also do a good job of bolth on newer hardware
(needs 256MB or ram). Good review at News Forge.
