Fast Optical Drives

Postby nick » Wed Jul 06, 2005 11:47 pm

Anyone have any favorites? I've got a Lite-On 52x CD burner and a NEC 3500a DVD burner. They're both good for loading LiveCDs, but I find myself using the NEC because it seems faster (or sounds better, I'm not sure which one).

I need to start paying attention to optical drive reviews to find which ones are the fastest readers. I would expect access times to have a big difference in LiveCD usablility, and manual control of the spin down time would be useful too.

A review of Fast DVD burner:

IMO it is better to burn at slowest speed, because various CD/DVD drive may not be able to read the result.

You need a fast computer and fast hard disk to use high speed burner.
