Linux Live CD question

Postby satimis » Mon Jan 02, 2006 1:14 am

Hi folks,

I have been googling a while searching Linux LiveCD, Chinese, running kernel 2.6 or >2.6. But I could not find it, only on 2.4 kernel. Could you please advise where can I find it to download.

TIA

BR and Happy New Year

Hi
Perhaps you can try the latest version or:

http://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions ... d-live-cd/

http://linux.hiweed.com/node/1653

From Malaysia with support for Chinese:

http://modern-design88.com/myrinix/

On Knoppix and knoppix related LiveCD, you can try the following boot parameter:

knoppix lang=cn

...or...

knoppix lang=tw

Hi anony,

Tks for your advice and url.

On Knoppix and knoppix related LiveCD, you can try the following boot parameter:

knoppix lang=cn

...or...

knoppix lang=tw

I tried both on Knoppix V4.0. Knoppix was started but not displayed in Chinese characters still in English. Justisfied from the size of the English Alphabets the fonts activated were supposed in Chinese fonts but not displaying Chinese characters. Neither Chinese input was found.

I'm not very interested on Knoppix because taking long time to start loading lot of stuffs which I never use in my life time. Therefore I'm now building my own LiveCD starting from LFS -> BLFS -> LiveCD. I built LFS -> BLFS without problem. But coming to LiveCD I have to solve the compression problem.

Now I need a Chinese LiveCD running kernel >2.6 to make another round building a LiveCD also LFS route. I use the Chinese LiveCD as host only. Chinese input is for communication in case discussing problem with Chinese forums.

You can try PUD Linux:

http://pud.sca-tw.org/spec.htm

"linux kernel 2.6.12 + UnionFS"

Use "saveconfig" on Knoppix:

http://www.linuxeden.com/forum/blog/ind ... gId=110848

You can create your own Morphix LiveCD using Chinese language module:

http://cosoft.org.cn/projects/cnmorphix

If you want to customize/modify Knoppix (old version):

http://tavi.debian.org.tw/index.php?page=3Anoppix+HOWTO

There is an old version of Gentoo 2004.0 for Chinese. Perhaps you can ask the author about the latest version:

>Compression

Try to delete several applications, files, documentations, etc.

LFS Chinese version

Perhaps you can ask / download from the following website:....
Problem solved. Download Chinese Knoppix from TW and with the cheatcode I can start Knoppix of kernel 2.6

Try to delete several applications, files, documentations, etc.
On building LFS then --> BLFS all packages are installed from source codes. It is not simple to remove the installed packages unlike rpm. It may render breaking dependencies.

I'm now starting another build of LFS. To make a LFS LiveCD is much simpler than making a BLFS LiveCD because of the size of the latter > 700MB. I must apply compression method. I am aware how to make it.

ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributio ... nootix.lsm

http://freshmeat.net/projects/snootix/?branch_id=45794

What about Snootix:

Snootix is a source-based distribution that installs Linux From Scratch and allows users to add BLFS and Snootix-specific packages of their choice. It features a number of game console emulators and more up-to-date packages than those featured in the BFLS book.

is it possible for Knoppix to read Chinese files/folders?

I am trying to recover data from a hdd. I have no problems with other files but all files or folders that are in Chinese seems to be non-existent.

is there any way to go about accessing these files?

Hello,

I am using the livecd, as I wanted to practise selinux(maybe the lviecd is not the best way to do this?) However I noticed I could not access my harddrive from the livecd as /dev/hda was mapped to the cd device, and my harddrive did not show up on fdisk -l
Is there a special way to access the local harddrive?
